Trade videos, one for one

Some videos are worth more than a like. On tapeshelf you can ask for someone's private video and offer one of yours in return. When you both agree, the copies change hands at the same moment.

Ask for a video

A private video shows visitors its cover and a 16-frame preview, enough to tell what it is. Press “Request this video”, add a note if you like, and pick some of your own videos to offer right away.

The owner answers

The owner gets a notification and can:

  • share it for free, and a copy lands on your shelf;
  • accept your offer, and the trade happens on the spot;
  • ask for something else from your shelf;
  • say no, with a comment if they like. You can ask for the same video again after seven days.

Offers and counter-offers

A trade is a short back-and-forth: one video for one, one for several, several for several, for as many rounds as it takes. In your profile you can fill in “Looking for” and “Please don't offer”, so people know what you want before they make an offer.

Nobody has to go first

When an offer is accepted, both sides get their copies at the same moment, so neither of you sends first and hopes. A copy stays on your shelf for as long as the video exists, and you can trade it on. The author's name stays on the video wherever it goes.

Trading with people who have no account

Send someone an exchange link, or let a visitor press “Offer an exchange” under your video. They upload up to 5 videos of their own, which stay locked until you agree: each side sees only the title, length, size, quality and frame preview of what the other offers. If the deal falls through, their videos are deleted right away. How guest trades work

Questions

What can I offer?

Anything on your shelf except bookmarks of public videos, including videos you got in earlier trades.

Can someone take a traded video back?

No. A copy on your shelf is yours to keep. Only the author can delete the video itself, and then it disappears from every shelf.

Is there a limit on requests?

There's a daily limit on how many videos you can ask for. Requests between people with accounts don't expire: they wait until someone answers.
