temporary links

Video links that expire on their own

Send a video for a set time: an hour, a day or a week. When the time is up the link stops opening, and there's nothing for you to remember to delete.

How to make one

Select one or more videos on your shelf, your own uploads or ones you received, and choose “Temporary link”. Pick how long it works: 1 hour, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days or a week. Copy the link and send it however you like: in a message, by email, in a chat.

What the other person sees

A page saying you're sharing videos with them, with a countdown to when the link stops working. They can watch each video right there and download it, or all of them as one ZIP. Downloads through the link run at full speed and don't count toward any monthly limit.

They don't need an account. Someone who is signed in can also add the videos to their shelf, and those copies stay with them after the link runs out.

You stay in control

“My links” in the account menu lists every link that still works. Copy one again, or revoke it and it stops opening at once. You get a notification the first time someone opens a link and whenever someone adds its videos to their shelf.

For one person, or with a password

Anyone who has the link can open it until it runs out. To narrow that down, tick “Only for one person” and enter their email: the link then opens only with a one-time code sent to that address. On Pro you can also set a password. Password-protected links

When an expiring link is the right tool

  • Showing a cut to a client or a friend for a day.
  • Sending family videos to relatives without putting them on a public site.
  • Sharing the recording of a meeting or a lesson with the people who were there.
  • Letting someone download a video once, without opening anything else to them.

Questions

Can a link last longer than a week?

No, a week is the longest. For a video that should stay available, make it public, or share it to the person's shelf: a shared copy stays with them for as long as the video exists.

Does the viewer need an account?

No. The link opens in any browser, on a computer or a phone.

Can they download the video?

Yes, each video on its own or all of them as one ZIP, at full speed, while the link works.

What happens when the link expires?

The page stops opening. Videos the person already downloaded or added to their shelf stay with them.
